1. Provider
Precedent Labs s.r.o., Příkop 4, 602 00 Brno, Czechia, Company ID: pending
The service is provided by the company named above (“we”, “us”). Contact: info@precedentlabs.eu.
2. The service
Precedent Review is a GitHub App that automatically reviews pull requests for duplicate code. When a pull request is opened or updated, it compares the changes with the code already in the repository and writes the result to the pull request as a summary comment, inline comments on newly introduced duplicates, and a precedent check run. Findings are advice; you decide what to merge.
3. Installation
You need a GitHub account to use the service. You install the app on a user account or organization and choose the repositories it can access. By installing it you confirm that you are authorised to do so and that you accept these terms for yourself or for the organization you represent. Your use of GitHub remains governed by GitHub's terms.
4. Plans and pricing
- Free: public repositories, with the daily limit in section 5.
- Paid plan: $8 per seat per month, for private repositories. The plan is purchased and billed through GitHub Marketplace; GitHub, Inc. is the merchant of record, and purchase, payment, taxes and cancellation are governed by the GitHub Marketplace terms. We will offer the paid plan on GitHub Marketplace as soon as GitHub allows it; until then, reviews of private repositories are enabled only by individual agreement.
- Enterprise: price and terms by individual contract, for example for running in your own infrastructure. Write to info@precedentlabs.eu.
Without a paid plan the app does not review private repositories: the precedent check run ends as neutral with a link to pricing, and the repository is not fetched. The provisions of an individual Enterprise contract take precedence over these terms.
5. Fair use
- The free plan has a daily review limit (UTC days): currently 10 reviews per installation, plus a shared limit across all free installations combined. When the limit is reached, the check run ends as neutral with an explanation, and the pull request is not reviewed until the next day.
- We review repositories up to 1.5 GB (as reported by GitHub), and one review may take up to about 7 minutes. Larger repositories and longer reviews end as neutral.
- We may adjust the limits to operating conditions; the current values are stated on this page.
- You must not use the service to circumvent the limits (for example through repeated installations), to attack the service or third parties, or in breach of the law. In case of abuse we may restrict or suspend the installation, with prior notice where possible.
6. Your code
You keep all rights to your code. You grant us only the permission to fetch and process the contents of the repositories you gave the app access to, solely to perform the review and write its result to the pull request. We do not store your code and do not use it to train models. The privacy policy has the details.
7. The command-line tool
The precedent command-line tool the service is built on is licensed under the MIT licence. That licence applies to the tool only; these terms apply to the hosted service only and do not change the MIT licence.
8. Availability and changes to the service
The service comes without a guaranteed availability (SLA) unless an Enterprise contract provides one. We may change and develop the service's features. If we discontinue the service, we announce it on this website at least 30 days in advance.
9. No warranty
The service is provided “as is”, without any express or implied warranty, in particular without a warranty that it finds every duplicate or that every finding is correct. When a review cannot be completed, it ends as neutral and does not block the merge. Consumer rights that cannot be excluded by contract remain unaffected.
10. Limitation of liability
We are not liable for lost profit, loss of data or indirect damage. Our total liability for all claims related to the service is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months before the event that caused the damage, and at least EUR 100. The limitation does not apply to damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, to harm to health, or where liability cannot be limited under mandatory law.
11. Termination
You can end the service at any time by uninstalling the app on GitHub; uninstalling ends the service. You cancel a paid plan in your GitHub billing settings. The privacy policy and the support page describe what happens to data after uninstalling. We may end or suspend an installation for a serious breach of these terms or when we discontinue the service.
12. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The new version is published on this page at least 30 days before it takes effect, and Enterprise customers also receive it by email. If you do not agree with a change, you can uninstall the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the change.
13. Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by the law of the Czech Republic. Disputes are decided by the competent courts in Brno. Consumers keep the protection of the mandatory law of their country of residence. Consumers may also use out-of-court dispute resolution at the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (coi.cz).
